With the basic monitor calibration taken care of, there should hopefully be an improvement when comparing what you see on screen and how the same file compares to prints ordered from Transpacolor. However, in order to gain a more accurate calibration to our printing you will need to order a monitor calibration print and then re-calibrate your monitor to match. Once you have received the calibration print, download the Calibration File from which is the same file that we have produced the print from. With the monitor warmed up and stabilised, load this image on your screen using Photoshop and then start the Adobe Gamma again. This time instead of using the wizard go to the control panel where you can load up your original monitor calibration by clicking on ‘Load’ and selecting ‘Monitor Calibration’ from the list. If you have not changed this since your last monitor calibration this will be set up anyway. With both the image in Photoshop and the Adobe Gamma control screen visible on your monitor you can adjust the Gamma controls to match the image on screen to the calibration print supplied. Adjust only the gamma controls and start by checking the box ‘view single gamma only’, which will allow you to lighten or darken the monitor as appropriate. Once this is complete uncheck this box so that you can then adjust the individual Gamma controls for Red, Green and Blue. This does take some practice and you should bear in mind that you are viewing the image in two differing forms that will never look exactly the same. You should aim to achieve as close an approximation as possible between the print and the monitor so pay particular attention to the skin tones, the more vivid colours as well as neutral areas such as the white/grey backgrounds. Once you are happy with your new calibration click OK and then save this new profile as Transpacolor Print. You will now have two differing profiles set up, one a basic monitor calibration and the other specific to Transpacolor’s printing. You probably do not want to keep your monitor set up with the Transpacolor Print profile for everyday use, and so may prefer to revert back to your Monitor Calibration profile. To switch between the different colour profiles open up the Adobe Gamma control panel and:
Do not worry that you are overwriting anything, so long as you have not made any changes to the settings you will not affect the saved profile. This is the standard way of selecting the different profiles for different output devices and purposes.
